Wendalynn Donnan Intro

Hello, I was diagnosed with Diabetes when I was 9 months old and I am now 35 years old. This March I will be on the pump for 5 years. I have been having the best time of my life since I have been "hooked up" as my doctor called it. I will not say that I do not know what it is like to have Diabetes, as I do not remember. As well, I will not say that it is something I have got used to. I live my life as if I do not have Diabetes and the pump lets me do that. Continue

Ben Klopfer Record-setting cyclist Jeff Bannink to speak on type 1 diabetes

Lance Armstrong isn’t the only cyclist who’s beat medical odds to race across the finish line. Michigan native Jeff Bannink helped Team Type 1 set a new record this year in the grueling 3,021-mile Race Across America. Bannink and his seven teammates all have Type 1 diabetes.

Ben Klopfer Phase 2 Trial of XOMA 052 to be Initiated in Type 1 Diabetes Patients

The trial will be sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF), the largest patient advocacy organization of Type 1 diabetes research worldwide. The trial sponsor is Dr. Marc Donath, Professor of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the University Hospital of Zurich, pioneer in anti-inflammatory approaches to diabetes treatment, and a principal investigator in the Phase 1 studies of XOMA 052. XOMA will provide XOMA 052 drug product for the trial.

Not one member of our extended family had ever been diagnosed with diabetes or type 1 diabetes, which was Henry's diagnosis, and the most severe case. Only 1 percent of children are given the same news that Henry was delivered. But instead of making Henry have a pity party for himself, my family immediately got involved in Henry, the 9-year-old with super powers, the little boy who could face anything.

Ben Klopfer Juvenile Diabetes on the Rise

Dr. Antionette Moran at Amplatz Children's Hospital at the University of Minnesota says diabetes at all ages is rising. However, kids under five are being diagnosed at twice the rate of all other age groups.

At the American Diabetes Association's 69th annual meeting in New Orleans today, an international committee of experts announced their consensus that the A1C assay is an accurate way to diagnose diabetes in adults and children, but not in pregnant women.
